disappointing food – I walked into this restaurant with high expectations since it was rated a 24 for food in Zagat. Although decor and service were adequate, the food was disappointing by LA or NY standards. The beef shabu-shabu was tough and the ponzu sauce lacked lemon flavor. Perhaps Shabu-Zen is popular because it lacks competition or diners enjoy the novelty of being able to cook in your own hot pot, but if you're looking for high quality food, don't come here!

Great Shabu-Shabu! – This is one of the cleanest and friendliest restaurants in Chinatown. Each person gets their own pot, the ingredients are fresh and the service is great!

Gotta hotpot! – I met my wife when a friend of mine had me over for a hotpot pahty at his house. That was my first and best hotpot ever. This place is pretty good, though. There's a great selection of food you can cook. Plus the cooking broth they use is very flavourful. Hotpots are really great to eat with friends and family, too. Bring your non-asian friends! They'll love it!

outstanding – Very good food and atmosphere. Get one of the special broths, its well worth it. If you arrive about 15 minutes before 6PM, there is parking available on the street. A great place to eat, highly recommend.

hotpot fanatic! – i am absolutely IN LOVE with this place in Chinatown. i try to dine here at least once a wk! the food is amazing and extremely affordable. the concept comes from Asia, where your food comes out raw and ready for you to cook. choose a single seat with individual cooking pot, as you will be able to personalize your flavor. choose the A1 or A3 combos. no doubt, there is a difference in all the meats!! cook veggies first, and when cooking meat, the key is to cook pieces one by one. do NOT let it overcook. allow... read more
