The Sarasota Power Squadron ( SPS ) was founded in 1952 and today is one of the largest of the USPS Squadrons, with over 300 local members. We are a totally volunteer organization. Our recently expanded and renovated Education Building is the center of our teaching efforts for all courses - to include the Boat Smart classes for the public and advanced and elective marine courses for members. Outstanding educational, fraternal and civic organization. An opportunity to maintain my nautical interests and to develope new friends in addition to contributing my mental and. physical energies and interests to maintain and improve this viable institution. The social and educational activities contine to be fun and stimulating. Participation keeps us young and productive.
I can't recommend this course enough! Exactly what you want/need to know when you're new to boating and have no experience. Terminology, rules of the road, practical tips on how to do stuff like docking, anchoring etc. There were also experienced boaters on our course who learned a lot too. The boat trip is great fun and helps you practice your new chart-reading skills (although no driving practice on this course). I passed my safe boating course! This is a great place to learn everything about boating. Great teachers and a great place for boaters to socialize.

A great place to learn safe boating. Driving a car requires a drivers license. Learning safe boating is equally as important. This is a great place to learn everything from basic boating to how to boat around our world. There are great dedicated teachers and a great place for boaters to socialize.
They are awesome. . Good buddies and a lot of boat activities.
