Horrible bedside manner... treated my dad and our family like dogs. He acts like he is too much of a hurry to answer questions! Extremely arrogant!
Knowledgeable, kind, compassionate. Dr Heiser made several followup phone calls to me following my appointments to provide additional information. My breast cancer surgery involved reconstruction and reduction with a second surgeon and Dr Heiser accompanied me to that visit so my surgeries and care could be coordinated.
I have to give credit to Dr. Sam Heiser, as well as Dr. Mary Bates (the supervising anesthesiologist - there were two at my surgery) for the excellent results and post-operative course of my surgery. The procedure was excision of a biochemically active paraganglioma from the ganglion running near the heart and spleen, and the surgical wound was necessarily the same as a aortocoronary bypass surgery. Dr. Heiser is simply burnt out and has the worst bedside manners I have ever seen. I come from a family of surgeons; my husband, father-in-law, grandfather, and father. I know how patients should be treated, and Dr. Heiser was the meanest surgeon I have ever met. I will NEVER let him operate on me again (I did not have a choice; He was on-call and my surgery was an emergency). Please see any General Surgeon in the area BUT Dr. Heiser.

Dr. Heiser was the "calm" in the midst of the storm and reassured us that my breast cancer had been found very early, but he told me frankly that even if the lumpectomy revealed clear margins with no lymph node involvement, he would strongly advise me to have chemotherapy because of my particular diagnosis: triple negative, for which there is no targeted therapy. I must admit that at the time it was all I could do to contemplate getting through surgery (my first) and thought I would probably NOT go through chemotherapy. Dr. ... read more
Dr. Heiser and his staff made us feel like family. I was so scared when initially diagnosed with Breast Cancer. They listened with sympathetic ears and hearts. Today I am proudly and fearlessly going through a personalized recovery treatment plan. I owe so much of my confidence to this amazing group of professionals.
wonderful experience. My surgery was scheduled while I was in the office and all my questions were answered. Great process
