The hard disk on my laptop has failed and it can't boot up because of a system file that a message tells me is missing or corrupt. I suppose too hard a bump or knock is the likely cause of this. The laptop has an I.B.M. utility that you can go into if you press a special button straight after turning it on - I suppose it is probably in a special ROM chip or something - I don't know. Anyway, it provides various utilities intended to help but I am not able to retrieving my files. Thanks to salvage data.
