Cross the bridge into the dining room and prepare for a wonderful meal. The walls are covered in bamboo mats and the kitchen is open to the dining room. A private room is available for parties of 10-12. Order a sushi platter because it was voted Twin Cities Best Sushi by Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine. Or try one of the many other signature dishes (some available in vegetarian versions) such as Japanese barbecue beef (yaki niku), tempura or any one of a variety of dishes with fish, chicken or beef. Excellent sushi – Just went here for dinner last night and had a great experience. The service wasn't exactly the greatest, and had I been on a schedule vs. a leisure Sunday evening, it may have been a problem. Our server was a very sweet girl who understood the menu well. So to recap on the service: not abysmal, not spectacular; nothing worth writing as much as I already have. To name a few, I've had sushi at Chino Latino, Origami, Benihana's. The sushi here was so amazing, and wins out on all past experiences. I am still c... read more
seaweed like plastic – -SLOW yet casual service -Seaweed on the sushi like a rubber tire -Overcooked everything -Are Sunday's baby night?? -Dirty, bad lighting and crammed together like you are sitting on an airplane...
What a great place! – I've been here a few times now and have never been disappointed. The drinks are really fabulous, although a bit expensive. The food is great - the sushi is fresh and artfully made. Saji Ya has a nice patio for the summer, nice ambiance inside and plenty of free parking. I am looking forward to going back!
I could eat their food everyday! – I love Saji Ya! I wish i could afford eating sushi more often. The staff was really nice. When i didn't understand a few of the dishes, they were really helpful. I've had sushi lots of other places and rate SajiYa at the top witha few others. You have to try their caterpillar, crunchy roll and the Yaki Niku appetizer - too die for!
Great service. – I love their sushi and always have a great experience .My favorite chef is Manny though all the chefs are great and have been there for a long time. Very good sushi and drink selection. Yum!
Managers obviously don't care – We chose Saji-Ya to take our out of town guests to for a fun, unique dining experience. The experience was anything but that. We were seated right away when we arrived prompty for our reservation, but service just tumbled downhill from there. Our server was either brand new or the management just doesn't care about training it's staff properly, as she guessed when we had questions about the menu and we had to go out of our way to get what we needed for our table. Shouldn't the server take care... read more
Decent food and terrible service – We were seated promptly, but the serivce went down from there. Our server did not know the menu when we asked questions. We constetntly had to ask for refills of tea and water. Our dishes were cleared after a first round, without asking if we would like more. The check was brought before we were asked about desert. The food was ok, but not worth it because of the service.
Grand Avenue restaurant known for its sushi and teppanyaki creations. – In Short Papier-mâché dragons, sake holders, sketches of sumo wrestlers and a bridge over untroubled water decorate Saji-Ya. The large list of sushi rolls runs from A (Alaskan salmon) to V (vegetarian) and includes a sushi "boat" for catering. There's also tempura, teriyaki and bento boxes. Upstairs, the teppanyaki dining rooms are filled with chefs regaling audiences with expert, amusing cooking maneuvers for chicken, shrimp or beef.
Great Sushi and Service – I have always had a good experience at Saji-Ya. On a recent visit, we had Malo as our server and he was awesome! Very attentive and friendly! Food is always wonderful! I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the area. Only thing I would change is the atmosphere, like the decor but it lacks something since the remodel....not very intimate.
