The Saint Louis Zoo is one of the best in the Midwest. Check out the big cat and polar bear exhibits, they're pretty awesome!
The mini train ride
If you have young kids it's so worth it to get the family pass. It includes parking ($15) a lot of fun stuff like sea lion show, train, children's zoo. Also get 10% off at all food/gifts.

Free admission! Parking is difficult though, or the lot right next to the zoo is $15
Best free or paid date every...everything is very responsible compared to other places...you may have to walk a bit parking gets hectic.
