Dr. Sager was more interested in pushing his agenda than in working with me towards clear, achievable goals in a progression towards stabilization. I found it very difficult to open up to him. In reading my notes post-stay it was clear that my unwillingness to share every last drop of myself got me labeled a liar and a manipulator among the unit staff. In my research on psych units since my breakdown I have found that this power structure while not uncommon is still unacceptable.
He took the time to answer my questions and he didn't just brush me off. He made a scary experience seem less scary.
