The difference between residential and commercial construction work comes down to scale, and meeting stricter regulations. Commercial projects require more manpower and resources, and we must meet codes for fire prevention and suppression, and comply with federal laws.

The Monadnock Building illustrates how quickly commercial construction changed in the 1890s. While the earliest sections were built with brick structural walls six feet deep at ground level, later sections were framed with more modern steel members and faced in brick.

If you simply need to add on some space to your industrial or commercial building, then you might want to consider a lean-to structure. These attach at or below the eave of your building and can be used as either a covered area or a completely enclosed addition to your building.

The American Institute of Architects, or AIA, was established in 1857. It has recently accepted the concept of design/build and has seen the value that it brings to a job site. Today the AIA has over 83,000 members!

What are just a few benefits of using steel as a building material? Steel will not crack, rot, split, settle, warp or twist. Steel is impervious to termites and other types of insect damage and steel is resistant to mold and fungal growths.

Basically, a tilt-up building’s walls are created horizontally in large slabs of concrete called panels. The panels are then lifted or tilted up into position around the buildings slab. What this means, is that the structure’s exterior wall is virtually finished when it is tilted into place.

The 1700s and the early 1800s saw a lot of hospitals open. At the time, a lot of them were paid for by wealthy private citizens. For example, Guy's Hospital, opened in London in 1724, was opened with a bequest from a wealthy merchant named Thomas Guy.

While it is possible to erect a steel building on your own, we do not recommend doing so if it is larger than a storage shed. Larger structures require the proper equipment and level of expertise to make the structure safe. Let us erect it and save you time and money.
