Rude Service – The food is good I admit. But as for the service, extremely unprofessional and rude. The owner/manager whoever was doing the reservations not only did not use an apologetic tone for giving our reservation away but used an accusatory tone for not showing up and pointed that we were at fault (when in actuality came on time).
Charles – From the moment I walked into Umbria....I was in love. The manager greeted me with a smile and whisped me to a quiet table with my soon to be fiance. I enjoyed a delicious bottle of wine... wonderful atmosphere.....incredibly authentic food. It was an amazing precursor to the climax of the evening...my engagement... Thank you Umbria!!
Traditional Italian cuisine and elegant decor highlight this downtown trattoria. – In Short Tall windows and an oak interior are the dominant design element of this downtown corner space. Traditional Italian fare fills the sizeable menu. Starters include the Umbria salad made with mixed greens, Gorgonzola cheese and walnuts. Thin-crust pizzas feature quattro stagioni (mushrooms, artichoke hearts, olives and prosciutto). Pastas are highlighted by special house-made offerings, like pumpkin ravioli. Other entrees include pork t... read more
excellent – this family owned restaurant is truly a find. the food is always consistent and the staff make one feel as though you are part of the family. the thin crust pizzas are the best in the city. i would highly recommend this restaurant
Rudest service in history – Having worked in restaurants for several years I can honestly say I have never even heard of an experience involving the level of rudeness I had at Umbria tonight. The manager of the restaurant literally started cursing at us to leave the place when the restaurant started closing down and we were the last people to leave. He approached our table and with no provocation started yelling loudly at us--full of profanities--and demanded we leave. We will never go there again, and can't recommend the pl... read more
Wonderful!!! - A Must ! – Wonderful food. We visited last week and both times couldn't find a complaint. Great food, service and ambiance. Had a great pasta dish with asparagus a MUST try!!!!! The best...had to go back before leaving for home, definitely a favorite! A+++++++
The best Italian food...pizza excellent! – I have been to Umbria multiple times. I have never been diappointed. The service and food is excellent. I had the pizza there for the first time a week ago. It is the best I have ever had.
Family-owned, family quality – Ristorante Umbria is a total treat. The location is ideal...close to downtown, SF MOMA, and on the way to the ball park. It is obviously family owned and run, as the attention to detail and authentic Italian and Umbrian cuisine is noticeable. The wine list is extensive and affordable. A must in the downtow/SOMA area!
Not bad, Not great either – I've eaten here 3 times over the last 2 1/2 years. The last time I ate here was about a week ago. Nothing is particularly remarkable about this place. Best Italian? I hope not. Supposedly this place is owned by the folks 1 block over at Pazzia. You couldn't tell. Pazzia is far more superior, at least their pasta dishes are. The antipasti isn't very rememberable nor is the pasta, although the pizza's are good. The service is good and friendly.
