I found Dr. Kinkel, the student assistant (Bella), and front office staff all delightful and very knowledgeable. I answered a comprehensive set of questions for my health background and received great care, understanding, and thought provoking attention to my needs. I also appreciated the referral to a different physician who can further help me in my unique circumstance.
I would give him 0 stars if possible. I accompanied a friend since she didn't want to go alone to her appointment. The doctor answers personal calls while in the appointment and barely pays attention to the patient. I felt like he didn't believe my friend even though she was expressing her symptoms. I mostly believe he was like that because she has Medical. Unfortunately not everyone has regular insurance but that shouldn't make a difference to treat patients.
Dr. Kinkel saved my life in 2016 and continues to keep me going. He is tops in his field and I trust him more than any doctor I have ever been treated by. That being said he isn't here to be our friend, he's here to diagnose, teach and treat us and that he does exceptionally well. If you need an amazing Neuro you found him.
This doctor is incredible. I have never had any other physician spend that amount of time to hear out my symptoms and work hard to find resolution. I felt very comfortable with him and his bedside manner was impeccable with some humor that made it all feel easier. After some testing, he knew exactly where and who to refer me to after years of pain. He ensured me that if I wasn’t able to find relief through that referral, he would figure it out. Very arrogant man behind closed doors. No bedside manner whatsoever. I hope the UCSD medical staff will review this someday. People need help. I was diagnosed with MS in 2011. Please reach out to Dr Charles Smith or any other neurologist at Scripps hospital.
