Vegetarians Beware! – The restaurant servers were great! Nice people. But nothing on the menu indicated that there would be a problem for a vegetarian such as myself. I checked with the server, as I usually do, and there is fish sauce in EVERYTHING. Not one vegetarian dish. I'm sure it's a great place for meat eaters but not for vegetarians!
inconsistent but some great items – Though some of the items on the menu aren't as great as others, this is still my favorite Union Square restaurant. I've taken to going there every Monday after a long day of work for the fabulous wontons and the absolutely amazing seared salmon and rice, definitely give them a try!
Great! – This place has wonderful food for the right price! You must try the Glass Noodles!
Worth a look – Given the prices in the city, this place is worth a look if you are hunting for a cheap meal in a somewhat funky yet social setting. Service is patchy in true NYC style - I don't know why we must tip for bad service - but you don't come here expecting fine dining. Slurp your soup and Sapporo and head out to Union Square or graba beer at the brewery next door.
WHAT? – I have only what thing to say about this place: "What? I can't hear you"
Overpriced Noodles – Hip decor do not make a good restaurant. The staff are prompt and courteous and the decor is edgy and modern and minimal but the food is nothing more than overpriced noodle fare which could be bought at half the price in Chinatown.
Nowhere else to go? – Not a bad place to go if you're around Union Square and have no clue where else to go. Nothing stands out but nothing's horrendous either.
Be aware! – THe food is good and the price is better. But be aware of its INNOVATIVE dishes (eg. Dish 20 on the menu). What is it anyway? Appraently, the waiter knows it too - he warned me about the dish. Overall experience is great. Nice ambience and cheap food. Just don't go there on a Sat night!
why bother? – Avoid this place if possible! The mediocre food is not worth the wait or the money. The atmosphere is loud, uncomfortable (with bench seating), and makes it impossible to converse with your dining companions. A bowl of spicy (rubbery) chicken soup was $9 and was not satisfying. The service was impatient and ultimately hovered over us to get us to leave. The deserts, however, were surprisingly good.
