Awful food and rude staff! – I have given this place a number of chances because I live in the area and it's convenient, but each and every time it's always been mediocre at best. However, after my experience there tonight (my boyfriend wanted to give it another go), I REFUSE to ever set foot in Republic again. Worm In Our Food – My boyfriend and I were very excited to try Republic -- it's a cute restaurant with a great decor. We ordered food which came promptly, but there was a live WORM in my boyfriend's pad thai. Not everything is great, but a great casual favorite – A Union Square institution, this is a good place for a quick casual eat or for delivery. I order their food a lot, but there are two shortfalls. Good food, good price, good location – Delicious food. Great prices. I loved the sushi sashimi salad and the coconut shrimp appetizer. The pad thai wasn't good. I sent it back. They are understaffed there, and it is very crowded. It is not a place to go if you want privacy at your table. Overall, this is a good place.
nasty hostess – I have been to Republic numerous times and was aware of the communal seating arrangement...today, I arrived with my fiance for lunch and we were asked to follow the hostess to the center of a communal table. avoid – The food is very bland and the service is very mediocre. The servers who are there seem to do a good job but they are grossly understaffed. So they repeatedly close huge sections of the restaurant. But they still try to pack the place in. We had 7 people sitting next to us in a space built for 4. Average Food/Service – While I do think one can make a much worse choice for Thai food, Republic is not the best. The Pad Thai is slightly bland, and other dishes just do not compare to other similarly priced Thai restaurants.
Great Night Out!! – The service is fast and the food is great. The restauraunt has a very communal feel. You share your table with other parties but you are never cramped. The prices are perfect and a dinner for two with appetizers was 40 bucks!!!. I loved it Would come back again. Try the Grilled Calimari and the Frid Wontons
More Unique but barely – I thought that with a very unique decor and environment that this place would be amazing. Their location is convenient but their food is no better than any other thai place.
