Red Fish Grill

5.0

About this business

Ralph Brennan, of the city's well-known restaurant clan, owns this casual, high-energy grill. This festive atmosphere holds true to the city it inhabits. A large central dining room is surrounded on three sides by banquettes, and a huge oyster bar is covered with images of the seafood that is also the focus of the menu. The kitchen produces a delicious barbecue shrimp po'boy, seafood gumbo with nuggets of alligator sausage and baked oysters on the half shell. The signature dessert is a variation of bananas foster.

Great food - slow service – The food here was outstanding - the service was slow. We ordered raw oysters and they took 25 minutes to arrive. We ordered some Gumbo which came out quickly and was delicious and filling. The oyster delay obvioulsy wasn't the server's fault - they had a shucking problem. But, it was New Year's Eve afternoon and they had to expect a crowd - where was the help? Instead of apologizing for the shucking issue and checking back in with us, our 2 servers were both too embarrassed to come by the table. I... read more

Perfect dinner – There are so many restaurants in New Orleans, it's a tall order to narrow down which ones to visit while there. Visit this one for sure. Despite it being in one of the city's most trampled sections, seating and service were great and the food was to die for. The sesame tuna was absolutely perfect, one of the best I've ever tasted. My girlfriend, who after days of NOLA seafood was ready for a steak, got what she said was the best meal of the trip hands down. Both portions were big, bread was great and even th... read more

Perfect oysters! – I don't think I can ever forget the perfectly fried oysters that I had for dinner here. The service is impeccable too and just a perfect dining experience. Our waiter couldn't have been more gracious during my last visit and he had a genuine sense of excitement and pride to be working there. I wish i could remember his name! I've been back quite a number of times since its Katrina reopening and i must say that they are a beacon of restaurant recovery. This is a must for all tourists so they can get the bes... read more

great staff, great food, highly recommended. – We were just there last night (unfortunately, we're back in cold-ass Denver tonight). The Red Fish Grill was our best meal in New Orleans, although the Gumbo Shop was a very close second. We had the BBQ oysters, crusted andouille gulf fish, a really interesting (good interesting) hickory flavored tuna, gumbo, and the double chocolate bread pudding. Our servers (Greg and Paul) were awesome. Very informative, very nice. We got a ton of food, and the bill was around $90. We're not ... read more

Casual atmosphere and upscale food share the spotlight at this unique seafood spot. – In Short Part of the Brennan family's suite of New Orleans restaurants, the funky Red Fish Grill is stunning in its decor and in its food presentation. The restaurant's boldly hued interior was designed by local artist and sculptor Luis Colmenares, who placed pieces depicting various sea creatures throughout the colorful dining room and bar area. Gulf fish is prepared on a wood-burning grill, like the signature redfish. Other items include ... read more

Booming after Katrina – After coming in town yesterday, we were hoping to find some place good and near our hotel in the French Quarter. Of course, we worried that too many restaurants would be closed or otherwise too hard to get into. However, I made reservations at Red Fish Grill. Even with the limited menu, the food was fabulous (we started out with the house salad; then I had shrimp creole and my dining companion had grilled shrimp). All of the food was tantalizing and caused goosebumps. What I remembered from the last t... read more

Great Seafood on Bourbon – The blackened red fish was excellent and just what I was looking for as my first taste of N.O. I sat in the bar area and people watched as I waited for my food.

REDFISH ROCKS! – First NO meal was fantastic! Order the Bourbon Street Sample for appetizer: BBQ Oysters, Crawfish Cakes, Coconut Shrimp and Alligator Sausage! Excellent. Entree's were plentiful and well prepared! Double Chocolate Bread Pudding--one word: HUGE! Great ambience, good service, great time.

Great, Fun Dinner on Bourbon Street – My wife and I had a 7:30 reservation and arrived at 7:00 (30 min early). However, we were seated immediately. Other parties we saw without reservations had about a 30-45 min wait. Get a reservation! We both at the seafood gumbo with alligator sausage... sounds scary, but it was actually very good! For entrees we both ate their famous Sweet Potato Catfish and it was amazing. Enormous piece of fish with a delicate sauce. Not enough room for dessert! We had three waiters serving us! Very fu... read more
