When Michael and Janet Verlander rented the shoebox-sized storefront at 1522 North Main Street in Walnut Creek in May of 1977, they had no idea that 38 years later, it would have become the East Bay's premier wine and food destination. It started as a deli with a cheese counter, a hot plate and a few racks of wine. Wonderful The wine store had a nice selection and was a pleasant surprise. The staff was inviting. The restaurant had a nice, cozy, intimate feel even though it was very busy. We ordered Ravioli with Sweetbreads, a nice bolognese-style pasta, and the definite winner- the steak! Dessert was not memorable. At the end of the night, we had a fantastic meal, a nice atmosphere, excellent service and attention.
Great wine selection pairing with steak, and different entrees Great food, had the assorted cheese and appetizers, steak and the wine selection was terrific ! Wonderful atmosphere, terrific service, clean and a little pricey- but well worth it !
I went here for my birthday with high expectations and Prima did not not disappoint at all. Would love to come back again.

BEST ITALIAN FOOD IN THE EAST BAY – First of all... no, I don't work at Prima. But I've dined there about 15 times in the last year, and I was just there last week. The food is some of the most authentic regional Italian in the Bay Area (my other favorite is A16 in San Francisco). Gross – My mother is italian, so granted, I may be biased. I thought that the food was terrible, over-priced, and downright lowsy. They obviously do not understand the basics of Italian cuisine- SIMPLICITY=QUALITY. Past was certainly NOT al dente, and eating pasta any other way is a sin.
Not a good value for your money – Prima has a very nice atmosphere. With that said, the food and service is mediocre. We went to Prima to celebrate my husband?s birthday. It was a very rainy day and there were accidents all over. A few people in the party were late and this irritated the wait staff. We understood and ordered quickly.
