THIS PLACE IS WAY TOO UNDER-RATED. – Been going here for years, never had one bad meal.If you don't like this place, then you must be ordering the wrong things, because Powells Seafood is the best. If i was being sentenced to death and they gave me my last meal of choice, i would choose powells seafood. Best Chinese/Mandarin restaurant in Portland – I have been going here since I moved up from California in 2005. It is a great place to eat and it is where we take our friends and family when they are visiting us from out of town. They also catered my wedding and people absolutely loved the food!! Try: Salt & Pepper Squid, Seafood Fish Maw Soup, Ginger Crab, Beef & Broccoli, Chow Fun and their Fried Shrimp! You will not be disappointed.
Frozen Food? – I decided to try out a new local restaurant and stopped here by chance. I wasn't hungry enough for a full meal so just order the appetizer sampler. It was probably the worst appetizer I have had in recent memory. The barbecue pork was tough and discolored like it was stuck into a microwave too long. The fried shrimp and egg rolls looked and tasted like frozen, store bought, and tasteless. I took most of the meal to go and ended up throwing it in the trash when I got home. Great Restaurant – Most people would probably just drive by this restauant on Powell Blvd since it is very non-descript. The restauarant opened in either 1996 or 1997. We used to live near the restaurant and were regular customers - a couple times a month - through 1998 until we moved out of the area. Living in L.O I already have my beloved Wanfu Chinese Restaurant, but my best girl friends lives in SE and when I go met up with them we dine at Powells Seafood. The decor and outside apperance could use a little facelift but overall it's a comfortable environment and the waitress have worked there for years. She's super fast, prompt seating, hot food, never a bad visit. Best Chinese, from a Chinese, to Chinese – Alright, so I'm Chinese and I can say it is VERY hard to find great Chinese food in America. Most have Egg Foo Young and Americanized dishes like Chop Suey, not at Powells. Powells is the best Chinses I've had in Portland, FAR better than Chinatown. The Sal and Pepper Prawn (no shell) is to die for, the sauteed green beans are amazing, the crispy chicken in fab, and the chowfun is NUTS!!
