Just don't get it – Since moving to Phoenix in early June, have been to Portland's twice. I just don't get it how it gets rated as a great happy hour. Sat at bar and ordered appetizers and it was like pulling teeth. Bartender not friendly both times, service slow, food okay, and the acoustics are awful. What it has going is a great location.
Great great great! – Portland's is an all-around great dining experience. The dining room is small enough that you receive great personal attention from your server. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and the extensive wine list. Our wine selection couldn't have been better paired with our meals, and the prices were in line with the quality, unlike some places that like to inflate prices. This is a great place for a date - either in jeans or dressed up. The bar was rocking the night we were there, but the resta... read more
Creative entrees and romantic ambiance lure patrons to this city-lit wine bar. – In Short This cozy spot caters to residents of neighboring Portland Place, downtown professionals and dating couples. The dining room's glass wall provides boulevard views while rotating exhibits of local artwork deck the walls. Crab cakes with a kick of jalapeno remoulade, flaky tempura tiger shrimp and spinach dip are featured appetizers. Entrees include an Australian range-fed filet mignon served with wild mushrooms and caramelized onion mash... read more
Excellent for upscale casual dining – My wife and I dined at Portland's while traveling in the Phoenix area. I had read the review on this site, and looked forward to the experience. I made a reservation a week in advance and was assured a window table. When we arrived the request was not honored, and a four top table along the window wall sat vacant throughout our meal. Despite this, I still recommend Portland's. The scallop appetizer is excellent, and both our entrees were well prepared (Cowboy Chop and Eggplant Napoleon).... read more
Go to Portland's for a great night out! – The friendly and knowledgeable staff at Portland's made my night! My husband and I enjoyed the unique atmosphere and the wonderful food while sharing a great bottle of wine. I highly recommend the scallop salad and my husband loved the mussels for appetizers and then move on to a steak or the fresh fish for dinner. We retreated outside for dessert, port and coffee which made our night complete. Portland's is a MUST visit every time we are in Phoenix!!!
Best find – Nowhere can you find a more perfectly cooked and delicious burger. The fries are to die for and the wait staff are professional, competent and friendly. Even if you have dined all over the world, you'll be hard pressed to find a restaurant with all of the key elements found in Portlands.
Excellent Meal – We were quickly seated on a Friday by an attractive young woman. The salad was wonderful, and the Ostrich has an awesome sauce. The wine list is extensive and has plenty of breadth. Our Waiter was very much in the know about all of the wine on the list.
User review by jdufon – I make it a point to visit Portland's Restaurant every time I am in Phoenix and I have never been disappointed. Great food, awesome staff and perfect environment to hold business lunches and dinners. Thanks for being there
happy eater – I have been to this restaurant several times. I must say that the review is really pretty good, except I don't think of this restaurant as expensive. I mean it is no McD's but if I want to just grab a burger I can, or if I want to really "do it up" I can also. I am an aspiring wine guy and this is a great place to learn. They are helpfull and very non wine snobish.
