My provider, KT Kusmaul, has helped me tremendously, and provides a safe space for me to open up about my experiences and difficulties to better guide my treatment plan.
They insist on the patient portal. They will call you on a speakerphone in an echoing room and often don't return calls. Some providers align with tenderqueer and pop psychology. If you want a therapist to coddle your inner child and not be honest about your mental illness, this is a great vacation or spa day. Group therapy is about the impact on the vibe, not folks being honest about how they experience reality. Challenging your distortions will likely cause you more shame. Dialetics are hit or miss. I've heard some have problems with intake and insurance. But this hasn't been my case at all. I remember their intake process was pretty intense. Lots of history to write down. But anyone looking for marginalized identities, BIPOC or LGBTQ+ they will pair you with someone. I see two therapists with two different types of therapy. One is a student. Which is also an option, whether or not you'd want to work with a student (definitely made finding someone easy!).
This place has difficulty with understanding how insurance works, and that problem will fall in your lap, not theirs. I reached out via email to see if my insurance was covered. The unclear response that I got was a link to go to a patient portal, to fill out paperwork. There was zero confirmation that my insurance was actually accepted, and that I would be able to be seen.
