HARDWARE, CHAPEL HILL This may be one of the last old style hardware stores left. No mindless chippies or retired military personnel with headsets asking if they can (and they can't) "help you". No senseless questions and verifications at check out. This place has everything and Jimmy knows where it is. I've been coming here for almost 30 years; and, I'm easily irritable.
National Treasure Unlike what happened in Pittsboro, where Lowes ended the hardware business for long-established local stores, the flossy newcomer Ace at Chatham Downs hardly made a dent in Tommy Pope's True Value store at Chatham Crossing. As we say in nearby Fearrington Village, "If Pope's doesn't have it, it's not worth having."
Everything you need...just a little hard to find Tucked in Cole Park Plaza, you'll find Pope's True Value Hardware. If you're looking for something, chances are Pope's True Value Hardware will have it. Unfortunately, the shelves and aisles are so crammed with items that it is difficult to find exactly what you need. Don't be alarmed! The staff is helpful and will personally walk you to whatever you need. Snow shovels, plants, seeds, keys, garden equipment, tools, and even a post office (in the back of the store!) await you.
