They top in Worst serive ever, Not to forget lousy food. – All is simply bad bad bad, Rather be thier serive or food. I am never goin back . It has left me with bad taste. There was no way i was going to tip that waiter after the worst treatment we received by him he should have been fired when i complained to the manager he acted like i was making no sense. i recommend not to go there ever that is if you paying for your order.

Awful service!! – I was astonished at the awful servive that we experienced on Wednesday at 9:45 pm. First we were told that the kitchen was closing so we had to give our orders immediately. Then we were told that nearly half of the menu was unavailable - particularly the rava dosas. I begged to have a rava dosa and finally the waiter agreed but said that our table could only have 1 since it takes 40 minutes to cook (a big fat lie!!). I was not surprised when my rava dosa came out first before the other dishes!! I was disapp... read more

Horrible Food in town, Avoiding forever. – The food was terrible with no flavor, however the waiting staff were quite unfriendly and not very helpful. Upon paying we were over-charged by the manager and when we mentioned this and after we had paid he got quite annoyed that we'd complained and became aggressive and told us we were idiots and talking nonsense, generally he dealt with the matter in a very ungracious way. Having worked in a restaurant myself I understand that it is a stressful job but would never dream of talkin... read more

Excellent Indian – I went here on a Sunday night and had a really great dinner. I've read some not so good reviews of this place but I thought it was perfectly nice. Our server was very polite (he even asked if we wanted to move since we were right by the half-open door- we stayed since the breeze was nice), the food was wonderful, and our courses were timed well. We took some time to look over the menus but were not rushed to order at all. On a Sunday night the restaurant was busy, but not packed, which was another plus.

ok Food, Bad Service! – I definitely agree with the prior review of this restaurant. Although the food was ok, the service and price was horrible. The waiter was not helpful at all. I went with my friend from work. When we entered the place, there was no one there. This was around 12pm on Monday. The waiter lead us to a tiny table up against a wall. I asked if we can change to a larger table next to us. He said no, "Those are for 4 people". I said to myself, come on there is no one else in the restaurant. People did come in ... read more

Too Expensive for the Taste and Awful Service – I would recommend that nobody in their right mind ever patronize this awful, dinghy south indian restuarant on Lexington Avenue. The service is lousy, they charge the coconut chutneys extra (how could you charge the basic accompaniment alongwith any South Indian dish) - atleast the quantity of chutney served should justify the extra charge...they hardly serve a 20 ml bowl of chutney for $ 1.00. The time taken to serve your order and finally the payment porcess by credit card to... read more

try the other location – I went to the pongal on 1st between 63rd and 64th (approximately). The service was really good, we had absolutely no problems. It's also far less crowded, and if you're going there with family, probably a better option then the location in Curry Hill. Not having been to the Lexington Avenue location, you can take this with a grain of salt, but if you want yummy dosa that's kosher I don't think you'll find a better place.

Worst "service" experience ever – If only we had checked the other reviews before investing two hours of our family time with hungry kids! The thought of kosher Indian was appealing - our family loves Indian food, and after "going kosher" it's been missed - but the experience was a disaster. Words cannot describe the level of incompetence and rudeness we experienced at the hands of the staff - but I'm certainly motivated to try. I hate to seem this way, but without doubt, similar sized groups of Indian customers were seated ... read more

Worst Service Ever!!! – I have lived in this neighbourhood for years but had never eaten at Pongal until this evening. My friend said she heard the food was good so we decided to check it out for an early dinner. Our waiter was unhelpful and seemed slightly put out for some reason but we smiled and ordered and assumed he was just in a bad mood. Said food arrived all at once - there was almost no room on the table. Then, while eating dessert, the bill was suddenly plonked down on the table while the waiter, glaring at us, hel... read more
