Set amidst the Elk Mountains in the Ashcroft Valley, the only way to get here in the winter is by sleigh, snowshoe or cross-country skis. Considering its unparalleled reputation for top-notch gourmet fare, its exterior looks like a common cabin. The interior, however, blends elegance with rustic, country charm. Dinner features selections like oven-roasted rack of lamb, Pistachio Crusted Caribou, and Barbecued Flat Iron Steak. The menu varies daily. Be forewarned that it can be a bit pricey and reservations are a must.

My trout as good but the person across from me had elk that was not edible. Finally he got a different entree (when the rest of us were eating our desert). Did the chef come out to apologize? No. Was there any adjustment for the elk or a reduction for the deserts? No. The waitress did point out that a 20% gratuity was added to the bill. We will find another restaurant next time. Pine Creek Cookhouse needs some lessons in customer service.
