Photo Antiquities is a small museum dedicated to exploring the history of photography. The walls are filled with images from the camera's earliest days. The collection includes daguerreotypes, Magic Lantern slides, albumen-coated plates and 3-D pictures. One room houses images from Pittsburgh's early days. The museum is easy to overlook, as it is located on the second floor above Bernie's Camera Shop, but this is one spot you won't want to miss.

The Photo Antiquities Museum is not only the best collection in all of Pittsburgh for those who love the history of photography, but also for anyone that has a passion for history, art, science, illusions, and so much more. The guide is fantastic and extremely passionate about the museum’s importance and history. You’ll never find a place like this anywhere else in Pennsylvania, and probably anywhere else in the country.

This is a gem of a museum in Pittsburgh. The owner is really knowledgeable and so excited to share his love of photography with everyone. Just make sure you call in advance to get a Saturday afternoon tour slot.
Bruce generously scheduled a private time to accommodate my wife's travel schedule. We had no idea what to expect --- and both left feeling this museum is a real gem in Pittsburgh. The amount of history and the actual collection of cameras, prints (some hand colored), glass negatives, and realizing how photography was truly a luxury was incredible. There is also a wonderful section on Pittsburgh including the city's 150th celebration in the early 1900's. Everything is also very well organized and it not just a bunch of equip... read more
