Our son has been seen at Phoenix Children’s for 19 years now, for treatment of and follow-up to an infection that damaged a leg growth plate. The hospital has improved its facilities dramatically in that time. Our orthopedist (who we met at PCH when our kid was an infant) retired, and we found our way to Dr Belthur who gave our son choices and options that we couldn’t get at the “other” pediatric orthopedic surgeons across town. I don't understand the bad reviews for Phoenix Children's. My daughter had a full spinal fusion roughly 10 years ago. Phoenix Children's did everything in their power to make the experience as good as they possibly could. The only thing I am sorry about is that both of kids are too old to go there anymore.

What I am primarily seeing in the overall ratings is that billing is likely more of the issue, possibly the codes used? I think though that billing issues should not reflect on the overall care through the medical team in orthopedics. Firstly I will say that Dr. Esparza is the best, she has been an active part of the process through which my daughter is being treated. The communication is wonderful as is the responsiveness. Beware of UNETHICAL billing practices regarding fracture care!!! My child was charged over $3000 for an office visit and splint. He was charged for a surgery and facility fee. He never had surgery. Technically fracture care can be billed as surgery care. Does not mean it has to be billed that way but PCH chooses to gauge. Billing should accurately reflect the care that was received.
