About this business

PHILIPPE is the eponymous restaurant of Chef Philippe Chow, the talented Hong Kong native who helmed Mr. Chow for 25 years before opening his own New York flagship location. great food, lazy service – went to Philippe last night, it was jam-packed even on a wednesday night. was seated about 10 minutes after my reservation time (which left me plenty of time to get comfy at the bar and have a drink) to a very cozy dining room. music was a little loud, which helped to drown out the conversations at the close tables next to me. food was all wonderful. especially the chicken satays, and the dumplings. oh, and the show the chef puts on when he comes out and carves your peking duck tableside. hes very ... read more

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!! – I had the displeasure of dining at Philippe the other evening. I should have read the user reviews on CITYSEARCH first! The service was horrible they seemed to be "escorts" rather then wait staff or Chinatown food hall workers by day. The food was over priced and GREASY!! YUCK!!! A lesson learned: check out CITYSEARCH first!

Don' t bother with this place..... – 4 of us went to Philippe last night. The food, for the most part, was pretty average. i have to say that the appetizers were better than the main course. for apps, we ordered the lobster rolls, jade dumplings, mr chow's noodles and salt and pepper shrimp. the food came out super fast. to be honest, we felt as though we were really being rushed out of the place. one of us was not even finished eating when they started clearing the appetizer plates, and the guy who was taking the dishes awa... read more

Just like Mr. Chow but with lower prices and menus – The food and menu is basically the same as Mr. Chow. The difference is you get to pick what and how much of each thing you want and they even itemize the bill. This way you get exactly what you want and its half the price. Satay is amazing. All the other stuff is amazing too. I want to eat here constantly.

Mr. Chow-trained chef brings large portions and stylish decor to the Upper East Side. – In Short Owner Phillipe Chow honed his skills at the famed Mr. Chow before striking out on his own. At his new digs, patrons share satays and spring rolls on leather couches in the lounge, while more upscale consumption occurs at white cloth-covered tables in four distinct dining rooms. Entrees like drunken sea bass and velvet chicken are designed for two or three people, as are the prawns, served in pink, black, white and green rendition... read more

Best Dumplings and a Noodle Show not to miss!!!! – I have been to Philippe a few times, and I love the place. The food is amazing and the noodle show is a must see! The last time I was there, I went down to the private "exclusive" wine cellar (through the kitchen) where we had dessert and drinks. Some of my favorite dishes are the lettues wraps, any of the dumplings, peking duck spring rolls, the green prawns and the Bejing chicken. The peking duck is great as well, but make sure you are really hungry or with a large group b... read more

IMPORTANT !!! PLEASE READ BEFORE U DECIDE TO GO THERE !!! YOU WILL GET SICK !!! – I have been going to Mr.Chow (which i can't get enough of) for quite some time now. Haven't been to Philippe and would probably never gone there if i was not invited for my friends Birthday dinner. We were a group of eight and from the beginning we were totally unhappy there. I have called Mr.Chow and tried to get a reservation while we were at Philippe, but Chow's was booked ( 2hrs wait) for the night so we decided to stay, which was A BIGGGGG... read more

AVOID THE FOOD!! THEN THE CHECK!!!! – On a recent night out we decided to dine with a long time friend at Philippe. We have been dining on Philippe Chows food for years at Mr. Chow and always had a wonderful experience. When we arrived we were whisked off to our table. A comfortable banquet situated nicely in the room. We started with a few appetizers followed by Pink Shrimp and Peking Duck. All was good, even though the service was less then adequate. We finished off our meal with some desert and a $700. check before headin... read more
