About this business

PHILIPPE is the eponymous restaurant of Chef Philippe Chow, the talented Hong Kong native who helmed Mr. Chow for 25 years before opening his own New York flagship location. Philippe draws upon his classical culinary training, putting his own spin on traditional Chinese cuisine with results that are modern, flavorful and theatrical. The atmosphere at the restaurant is minimalist and stylish, with a devoted nightly following that makes up a virtual "who's who" of the music, media and film industries. RUDE WAITSTAFF! – Food was great as always. Very dissapointed with rude waitstaff. Stood at front being ignored for several minutes. Maybe I would have been better off just going to Mr. Chow? Service is much better there!

Not Good at all -- Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere !!! – Average chinese food in a lacquer setting. RIDICULOUS!!! Is is still the 80's, then head to this pathetic restaurant, The food is better and more authentic at 1st Wok. Avoid the poor service and obnoxious attitude. There are many better places to eat, AVOID!

What a joke - Someone please tell these puffed up freaks that they are eating bad food! – This place is a joke. We were seated 30 min. after reservation time. The service was bad and with attitude, the drinks were wrong, and the food was so bland that it tasted like frozen Asian food from the grocery store. We were jammed up next to tables on either side and each table seemed to yell louder than the other and say the "f" word more than the other in some sort of competition or tennis match with words. What a freak show! This ... read more

Do you like restaurants that are scenes? – We arrived on time and were greeted professionally and seated promptly, although we were waiting for three of our party to arrive. There were five of us at that time. We sat upstairs in a smaller quieter room facing 60th Street. Our waiter took our drink orders. While we were waiting for the rest of our party, I felt the staff overly hovering. We ordered the Peking Duck since it takes sixty minutes to prepare. When the rest of our party arrived, they were told to go upstairs and tur... read more

Wonderful experience Beg to differ from citysearch reviews – In complete disagreement with all the Citysearch commentary. Been a customer to Mr.Chows close to 15 years with my wife, and am convinced Philippe takes the win for food, quality, and most importantly service. I planned my 50th Birthday party about two weeks ago, and was more than pleased. My wife and I live out in Miami Beach and flew a few of our closest friends out just for the occasion at Philippe Chow. They have a gorgeous event coordinator who made the night ... read more

Overpriced chinese food, with music too loud and room too dark. – I took 3 clients last night for dinner. Unlike a lot of the reviews below, I felt the service was excellent. That was the only excellent thing that Philippe had to offer though. The portion sizes were tiny, but prices very very expensive. The room was practically pitch black, and the music was so loud that we couldn't hear each other speak. They say the duck is their signature dish which everyone wants. However, I thought it was greasy and fatty.

Great Food; Horrible Service – Five of us had dinner at Philippe on 7/18 (the night the steam pipe exploded). The restaurant was very nice about holding our reservation for 1/2 hour since we were all delayed getting there. (We phoned and let them know we would be delayed) The food was very good, but the service was the worst. We ordered several appetizers, however they had not all been served when they began serving the entrees; rather than apologize and delay serving the entrees, the waiter said "oh, well you can have them ... read more

mediocre food, rude waiter and overpriced – Heard some good things about this place from a friend, tried Saturday prixe fixe lunch and it was very disappointing. Food was at best mediocre. Scallion pancakes ($9) were dry and hard as if it was put on plate 15 minutes ago. Lettuce to wrap diced squab were dripping wet with water (in proper restaurant greens in salad are never wet). Salmon entree's sauce was way too sweet you can't taste salmon. No thought was put in presentation of food; all food on white place with not even a... read more
