FANTASTIC wine list – This place is super romantic and has such a great wine list! Wonderful French wines at really reasonable prices. The service is attentive, without being obtrusive. The mussels are outstanding, as is the cheese plate. Enjoy!

One of the better French restaurants – I wished we came here again for my birthday instead of Ibiza. The mussels appetizer was very delicious, comparable to the originals from Belgium. Foie gras appetizer and foie gras filet for entree was tasty. The sorbets for dessert was delicious as Berthillon's in Paris. Highly recommended. I wished we lived closer instead of The Woodlands so we would be frequent visitors.

First Time Visit – A light dinner at Bistro Calais included a $34 Cote du Rhone. Very nice. A bit of fruit and very drinkable. The somnelier indicagted he had made the decision regarding purchase of the wine. A good sign. The Baked Brie with rasberry sauce was exceptional. The rabbit stew was ok, but would have benefited from more seasoning (my wife who spent a year in France informed me that country rabbit stew is traditionally underseasoned). My wife's duck was very good. The pea pods with the duck were the best we had hav... read more

Good, consistent French cuisine – We were very pleased with Bistro Calais - the menu and service were very consistent. The chef makes simple dishes come alive. Examples are french onion soup, mashed potatoes and bordelais sauce. Both Filet Mignon with foie gras and Strip Steak were excellent. However, Roquefort topping on the strip steak was a bit strong and foie gras on the filet was tasty but not firm enough. Our favorite appetizer was pistachio-crusted baked brie with raspberry sauce. The mixed green salad was tasty yet s... read more

Picturesque River Oaks cottage for exciting French fare and affordable Sunday brunch. – In Short Ask for a table on the sun-drenched front porch or in the airy, glass-walled main room for a view overlooking the Bammell Gardens and conservatory. The atmosphere is upscale casual; suitable enough for the area's ladies who lunch but still ideal for a relaxed midweek dinner. The menu features authentic French fare (once a rarity for Houston) including a notable bouillabaisse and Cornish hen, as well as creative salads, stews and ... read more

For a fabulous, fun evening, grab four couples & reserve the Chef's Table!! We did that a couple of weeks ago after seeing Varekai. What a meal and what a deal. For $65 per couple, including a bottle of winer PER COUPLE, you are treated to a feast from the kitchen & you never have to look at a menu. From the huge platters of appetizers which included smoked salmon, stuffed mussels, fried goat cheese, olives to the authentic salade nicoise, to the delicious main dishes, veggies and most amazing potatoes au gratin and then top... read more

Absolutely a most go – Absolutely a most go. This cozy French Bistro in the heart of River Oaks is a warm welcome to the plush neighborhood. The Roquefort salad with seared flat meat is out of this world, by far the best salad in town and great for that low-carb diet as well. When ordering an entree, I recommend the filet with foie gras.it melts in your mouth. The succulent lamb rack and luscious pork chop have to take the cake, unless they are running the slow roasted chicken special.then you are going to have a hard time p... read more

Wonderful! – I was pleasantly surprised by this place! The food was perfect, as well as the atmosphere and scenery. I think it is in a "bad luck" spot, but I really hope this restaurant makes it. The service was wonderful yet unobtrusive, highly recommend!

Very nice place, good food and wine – This is a very nice place with great romantic atmosphere, friendly service, good wine and food. The back room has very nice windows looking out the wedding area next door. There is a variety of solid French dishes that are tasty. The wine list isnt super large, but has a good, not overly burdensome selection favoring French wines. Many of the French wines are priced quite reasonably for a restaurant.
