Peebles Bar-B-Que was started in 1947 by Elle and Gladys Peebles. Mr. Peebles drove a school bus and started his small business on the side. The small side job turned into a major landmark in no time. He was soon joined by his two sons to help run the restaurant that had grown incredibly. Later after Mr. Peebles had left the business to his two sons, Dale Strickland married Mr. Peebles youngest daughter Marsha Peebles. I live in Michigan and I’ve been coming to Lakeland since 1984-1985 I was introduced to Peebles back then with my father in law Jim Hendrick and “Uncle Bernie”.... Bernie Little and I have my own family now who I’ve indoctrinated in the Peebles BBQ experience... My wife and kids love it as much as I do. We love the low key, sit down and let’s have a picnic type of atmosphere with the smell of that fresh BBQ going on the pits I’ve been to Memphis and Kansas City and their BBQ doesn’t come close to this place! Had the beef sandwich and Mac & cheese. It was delicious. I would never have gone in this place because it looks kinda run down, but several people told me the bbq was awesome and they weren’t lying.
We were in the area yesterday and on my sons recommendation, we stopped for lunch. AMAZING!!! Real food , really nice people ! Hopefully will Get back again next time we are in the area
