AVOID AND BEWARE!!! I made a reservation at Payless Car Rental in Denver through Expedia. I waited 20 minutes to catch the shuttle bus (which was filthy and had broken seats) and then waited another 15 minutes in line at the Payless counter only to be told that in order to rent a car in Denver I needed to present a copy of a utility bill with my name on it! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! We, too, were scammed by Payless Car Rental in Denver. We booked through Orbitz & when we arrived at the counter the sweet-faced agent politely suggested an upgrade. We asked right away if there would be an upcharge. She said no...we were locked in at the Orbitz rate. We were distracted by the football game they were showing on t.v. & we were excited to begin our vacation. We assumed she was being honest & in good faith just signed the paperwork. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! I cannot stress this enough! There is a reason they are the cheapest car rental company in the Denver area - THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS! I rented a vehicle last week for 4 days via Priceline. I was charged the amount I was quoted on day one and then when I dropped my car off - they charged me again!!! DO NOT rent from this company. I came into town last month having made a reservation through a travel service with Payless. When I got to the counter they told me the reservation had been "cancelled" (not true). They re-booked me at the same rate and when I told them I would be returning the car on Sunday night they said that it wouldn't matter. Complete scam. Wanted to rent the car Complete scam. Wanted to rent the car for 5 days and the agent quoted me at $405. I said that was way to much, so he came back with it under but still charged me $405. He did all this while smiling and saying "Welcome to Denver"

I rented a car from 1/27 to 1/30/12. I I rented a car from 1/27 to 1/30/12. I brought i back a day early which wasn't adjusted until I called orbitz. My card was billed for $219.59 and my quote was $70.11. They charged me for prepay gas after I returned it full and insurance i had thru orbitz. Orbitz settled most of it but they wanted a gas receipt> don't their records show how much gas was in it ? What a hassle will not use them again. Should have known when the woman tried to upsell me to a 4*4 or least 6 cylinder.

Excellent Value & Service I'm not sure what happened with the previous reviewers, but my experience was excellent. I declined all additional insurance and was not charged. The vehicle was upgraded from what I'd ordered (at no extra charge). The car was immaculately clean & fresh. The person at the service counter was friendly, efficient, & professional. Since gas prices have been rising almost daily, I signed up for the 'buy the gas up front' option, so I wouldn't have to fill the tank on my return. Since I only used about a... read more

Total Scam, Don't Rent Here DO NOT RENT HERE, it's a total scam. We rented an SUV a few years back, and when they gave us the car, it was all muddy. Apparently their carwash was broken that day. The security guard, at check out, laughed and said to "Bring it back as dirty as I want". Which is fine, but here is the problem. It may have been a mistake, but... on a recent trip to Denver when I indicated I did NOT want the supplemental liability insurance, the agent indicated I should initial the line that documented I accepted the service. Because I trusted that the agent was acting on what I had said I wanted, I did not scrutinize what I was initialing and learned of my unwanted purchase of the insurance after it was too late.
