About this business

Specialties For over 25 years, Pauline's has been serving thin-crust pizzas with unsurpassed dimension in texture and flavor. Our dough is handmade every morning and allowed a long slow rise so the crust crisps to perfection. The light puff of the crust contrasts nicely with rich flavors of whole milk, olive oil and sea salt. Our pizzas are lightly sauced and layered with part-skim mozzarella. Pauline's is proud to offer many specialty toppings prepared on-site by our team of pizza specialists as well as tasty desserts such ... read more

Best pizza, salad in SF – I went here last week with two friends, one of whom is an SF native & a graduate of a culinary school (Johnson & Wales), and we all agreed this is the best pizza we've had in San Francisco. We ordered the vegetarian special pizza (roasted red potatoes, sorrel & stilton) and the special salad, which was heavy on watercress. Both were phenomenally delicious. The salad, in particular, was extremely fresh, and light on the dressing (which I liked). We will definitely be going again. The service was okay... read more

Great pizza, lousy service – The pizza is extraordinary, with a thin crust, superb combinations of herbs, meats, and cheeses (seldom including mozzarella). My wife and I have lived on the east coast for a total of thirty-five years, in New York, New Haven, and Boston; those cities have nothing as good as Pauline's. If you're looking for cheesy, heavy, Italo-American pizza, go elsewhere. However: be prepared for appalling service, especially for takeout. The staff generally has a bad attitude, and some of the people who take ... read more

Gourmet slices, organic salads and crayons on the table highlight this Inner Mission pizzeria. – The Scene Don't be fooled by the faded sign outside; this is no greasy slice joint. Locals in the know come in to sit at candlelit tables sheathed in white tablecloths and adorned with wine glasses and linen napkins. But Pauline's has a sense of humor: On top of those white tablecloths are sheets of scribble-ready white butcher paper and glasses of crayons. The Food Because the pizza is gourmet (read: fresh ingredients, exotic to... read more

Great Pizza – Paulines staff doesnt act like your dog at the front door or suburban friends meeting for the thousand time its the mission. Paulines pizza is not like New York pizza but neither is Chez Panisse or the French Laundry like many aspiring restaurants in New York. Paulines pizza is quintessentially California Pizza their Salads and desserts are always tasty. The butterscotch pudding is a uniquely updated version of Betty Crockers. Besides who actually likes greasy pepperoni!

Very Tasty – What's all this "I'm from New York so I've had good pizza" nonsense? I've had pizza all over the planet, but that has nothing to do with Pauline's Pizza. Is it tasty? Yes. Are the ingredients bursting with flavor? Yes. Are her pizzas original? Some are, Yes. Is the staff friendly? No, but I don't go there for the company. If they're rude, they get a crappy tip. I still get my pizza.

Ok Pizza, Rude Service – We tried Pauline's today and had a horrible dining experience. While the pizza was ok (although way too much flour on the crust and super salty pesto), the service was totally rude. Our waitress was completely oblivious to our existence and did not mutter more than a few words when taking our order. By the end of the meal we were desparate for water (luckily we had some bottled water in the car since we were never given a refill, despite multiple requests) and received our bill without a single word.... read more

A New Yorker's review – Totally dissapointing. Overcooked, overpriced, an x-large pizza that got us full as a small, huge crust little cheese... pizza that tries to be hip. That's what happens when a New Yorker tries to eat California pizza. $21.70 for a xl pizza with 2 toppings. It was burnt. I was very sad. I should of taken it back, but i would of made a scene.

this is pizza? – I recently came back from visiting San Francisco and it was suggested that for Pizza we tried Pauline's Pizza because it was considered good. Maybe it was an off night but the pizza we ordered was over cooked, dried out and not even good cheese was used. It might have helped if it was baked in wood oven and not a regular gas fire oven would maybe have helped. I've had better pizza a Pizza Hut for less. In fact I would perfer Pizza hut pizza over Pauline's pie any day. I've had great pizza and sadly that Wash... read more

I hate to say it... – ... because I'd love it if this place wasn't so crowded -- but this is the best pizza in San Francisco. It's fresh, thin with great crust, and imaginative toppings. Please stay home.
