Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo This is a low-key facility with hands-on exhibits and a zoo for young kids. But, don't ignore the classes and camps that are offered for elementary and middle school kids. There are some great offerings that are fun and educational. Camp Kinetic (offered during the summer) was a favorite in my household - early exposure to physics principles while having fun!

Great resource for younger kids Although small in scale, to have a museum and zoo just around the corner is fantastic. They offer rotating science and geography exhibits science and have mini zoo out back with about 50 or so animals. You can also hold birthday parties here and have your kids attend special education classes that they hold.

it's free! The fact that it is free should be good enough for most of you, because if you don't like it you won't feel like you waisted your money. I went to the zoo with my 5 year old niece. I had some time to kill with her so I decided to check it out. You won't find the animals here that you would at the SF zoo but there are animals here that will at least make your little one interested. Another great thing about the zoo is the area to play in. The museum is donation based so I dropped a couple of dollars in before I lef... read more

Fun place to take lower elementary students to There are a lot of hands-on things for the energetic hands to try out. The zoo is not huge, but it's cute and enchanting for the little ones. They offer many classes and they do birthday parties, too.

Great for an afternoon outing with preschoolers This place was a nice surprise. I went here with the children's preschool class. I liked the fact that there were indoor and outdoor spaces, and a nice variety of animals and exhibits. It is small, and holds their attention for about an hour.

fun for younger kids good place to spend an hour or two with little kids, especially because it's free. It has a few animals (mostly local wildlife- racoons, mountain lion) which are fun for kids (and even adults) to see. The inside play area is perfect for playing house, because it has a lot of equipment for a "house" and even fake groceries and a staff run "store". You can also pay to have a science like birthday party at the venue

Good Summer Camps for Kids The junior museum always has a variey of summer camps and classes for kids, k-5th grade. It is too bad they don't have camps/classes for the teens as they do such a good job with the younger kids.

Free (or small donation) and just the right size Many of the other museums in the area do it all, but this museum offers a nice small set of indoor/interactive exhibits along with a cute (also small) outdoor zoo. It's nice if you have 2 kids, because there's really only one big room (as long as you can convince both of them to stay inside). Entrance is free, but usually a couple of dollars is about right for a donation. The zoo has rabbits, ducks, an owl, and much more (but I can't remember them right now). The other nice th... read more
