My family's been going to the same dental office years. And I was pleased to hear that he had done a good job. However, I think it important to review (like insurance) your relationship with a provider and perhaps make a change. This is especially true when you retire and realize you no longer have a "dental" plan. Change is good! Good paying customers should be commended for their loyalty.
