great food, awful service and wait – like the previous reviewer, my boyfriend and i had the same awful experience with waiting for a table. we waited half an hour for a table, while there was an open table for 20 of the 30 minutes we were waiting! this table was apparently reserved for a couple who already had seats at the sushi bar and wanted to enjoy the rest of their dinner, the non-sushi, at a table instead of the bar. this all occurred while 4 other parties were also waiting for tables. for the last 10 minutes of our wa... read more

Slightly above average sushi, way below average service – The first time I went there it was with my GF and it was very average. My GF is Japanese so she would know. She said the atmosphere reminded her of a social type bar/restaurant from Japan where college kids went to go snack and drink. The food and sushi was relatively fresh and a bit better then the typical Japanese place around here. The biggest issue the first time was that it was rather hard to get the waitresses attention and the food came out in a rather slow fas... read more

great place to hang out, eat, drink and be merry! – love this place!!! great food - including fresh sushi (best on tuesdays) and izakaya (japanese pub) dishes, fun ambience, attentive and friendly staff, easy parking, the list goes on and on... you can even buy a big bottle of sake, and if you can't finish it, you can write your name on a tag, and it'll be there for you the next time you go in! it's fun watching Oyaji (the owner and head sushi chef) accept glasses of sake from the patrons. before you know it, he'll be out fr... read more

LETS GET DRUNK! – I was introduced to this place a while ago and ever since, I have been coming back. Their menu is almost exactly what you would find at a real Japanese Izakaya. Their Buta-no-kakuni or the Hirame-no-usuzukuri is something you will definitely have to try. They have a bunch of authentic dishes that you can find no where else. A word of advice: buy the owner a few drinks and he will serve you up some off-the-menu dishes. After your done drinking up the japanese beer on tap, finish up your night with a bowl of ... read more

Good sushi, slow service. – I tried Oyaji for the first time the other night. The sushi was good and fresh but service was really slow. Also, there was a drunk, obnoxious guy there who apparently was friends with the wait staff? It was very loud in general in the restaurant. Prices were fair. I might go back.

Fun Place – Good japanese bar food, average sushi. Very fun atmosphere, sociable chefs and servers.

Good Japanese small dish place – I didn't try the sushi - next time. This place is typical "beer and snack" place. The small dishes are meant to accompany or sake. The only disadvantage is that its way on the other side of Clement...

A gem of a Japanese place – This place is worth a trip to the middle of nowhere. It can be boisterous when it fills up, but the guy behind the bar is always happy. This is one of the few places in SF you can actually eat Japanese style, with several smaller dishes. The grilled fish is great and you can't go wrong with the noodles. The sushi is not bad, but why bother? There's a glut of good sushi, and this place does so many other dishes so well.

Great sushi – Excellent joint if you're willing to travel to the outback. Sushi was excellent, sake selection is fabulous, and the prices give an outstanding value to it all. All that and zero wait on a Saturday night.
