Today at the Strawberry Festival my wife's wheelchair decided to leave us stranded when one of its front wheels fell off as we crossed the road by Dunkin Donuts. Immediately, several Owego policemen came to our rescue and helped me get her out of the middle of the road where traffic was waiting to proceed. They contacted the Owego Fire Department who went out of their way to return us to our car parked at the Hickories. Although I didn't get his last name, Tom helped us tremendously. This is a great group of dedicated volunteers. We are 5 fire companies providing fire protection services and ambulance emergency medical services for the Village of Owego and surrounding area. We are somewhere between 60 -100 people. ALL are volunteers with the exception of one salaried day time medic. Call 911 and we jump to respond!
