This is part of St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma. While I waited for my wife, I explored this very modern hospital that has a great deli where I had breakfast. They served espresso drinks and a variety of breakfast foods including sandwiches and breakfast burritos. There was plenty of seating, so I had a full table to myself to read my tablet. The hospital staff was partially helpful in supplying directions to me for finding the deli and the cafeteria. I didn't go to the cafeteria, but expect it was equally nice.
The outpatient registration and finance process is horrible. I know my insurance will cover the x-ray but I’m forced to sit and wait while a painfully slow staff processes others in front of me. It’s a terrible process and cannot be that hard to manage the flow more expeditiously. Hire more staff or have others in the billing team sit in the 6 cubes so there is no wait. 30 minutes is not acceptable. The use of paper from the receptionist to the team is also not efficient as a patient who checked in after me was seen first.
