My first foray into ultra-fancy restaurants, and it was a perfect experience all around. The kind of restaurant where they will bend over to backward to accommodate any need you could possibly come up with. The food was delicious, and almost every small plate I had was the best version of that food I've ever tasted. Truly an experience I will remember for a long time.
Omakase @ Barracks Row is a truly special and moving experience. Each ingredient and dish was not only gorgeous and wonderfully delicious but also full of intentionality, tradition and sustainability that will amaze you throughout the night. It is like instantly teleporting to Hokkaido Japan. Highly recommend!!
Beautiful restaurant with genuinely good food — the fish was fresh, the sushi rice was perfectly done, and the miso soup was a standout. The plating on several dishes was lovely too. A couple of notes for improvement: the wine list could use more depth, though the sake selection is strong if that's your preference. The bigger note is on the omakase experience itself. This was our first Omakase experience and it did not disappoint! I was fully expecting to have one or two items that I did not like, but every bite of food was delicious. There were some stand out items (otoro, Hokkaido salmon, scallop, smoked bonito, and the Wagyu- honestly, I could just list everything). It was by far the best sushi I've ever had and the best restaurant experience I've had in DC and anywhere else. Service was as exceptional and perfect as the fish, and the environment was welcoming, sophisticated, and highlighted the food and service. If you're wondering, it's worth it.
