About this business

This charming little track in the western suburb of Northville is the winter site for harness racing in the Detroit area. Racing begins in October, as soon as Hazel Park Raceway closes, and continues to the beginning of April. With some exceptions, racing is five nights a week, with the track dark Wednesdays and Sundays. Bettors can wager on other races from around the country. Views of the track are better in the 3000-seat grandstand than in the 1500-seat clubhouse. The track has been in operation since 1944, but renovation... read more

Northville's web site reads "Celebrating 100 Years of Racing in Northville". Harness racing made that happen...and now Northville is trying to do away with live harness racing.

Thoroughbreds are back in the city. Its been along hard struggle for thoroughbred owners, breeders, and trainers. TB'S will draw in bigger crowds. Thoroughbred simulcast produces much more revenue than standardbeds.

Daniel Boik, I hope you're right about the TB's bringing more crowds and money to Northville but I am curious as to why they think there will even be any horses entered. I attended Mt. Pleasant several times last year to watch Dokey's horses and there were numerous races with only 4-5 horses so betting was pretty slow and boring. It may or may not work at HP where they have a history and it will be warmer but NV in late Oct doesn't seem optimal to race the TB's. Time will tell I suppose.
