I would not recommend Newport Academy in Charlotte, NC to families who are seeking meaningful, support for a child with serious mental health challenges. My daughter was admitted and discharged after only 30 days, despite significant concerns about her behavior and mental health. What was most disappointing was how quickly the discharge happened once our family began pushing back during therapy sessions. I wouldn't bother sending your child here. They don't offer any real mental health treatment. As soon as it gets hard, they abandon your kid and kick them out. This is after they take your money of course.
My stay at Newport Academy in North Carolina was abusive, unsafe, and left me with severe trauma. I was only 13 years old when I entered, hoping for real help with depression, and being on the autism spectrum. Instead of receiving care, I suffered neglect, discrimination, and violence during my time there. One of the most terrifying experiences was being physically attacked by another resident.
