Nelson Blue is New York's first New Zealand restaurant and bar. Resident Kiwi, Pauli Morgan, and co-owners, Michelle Casano and Vanessa Shum, opened shop around the corner from the South Street Seaport. This up-and-coming neighborhood couldn't have asked for a better addition. We offer Maori-inspired decor and New Zealand-inspired menus. We've got outdoor seating in the summer and a great view of the Brooklyn Bridge always. Our fun & friendly staff will knowledgeably recommend from our southern hemisphere wines, brews from al... read more

Glitch free area! Nellie Blue's a blast – And finally a decent cup of coffee! (a integral part of NZ culture!) I read with suprise a not too favorable review on this site for Nelson Blue and though I don't often take the time to write reviews on this site, I had to respond to the doubters! I had a wonderful dining experience there, the food was fantastic, I love that you can tailor the meal to exactly what you want, the scallops just melted in my mouth and I savoured the gorgeous flavours for as long as I could! A lot of my ... read more
Nelson Blue - Skydiver Night at Wednesdays – Good Beer! Delicious Food! and best service! And the skydiver atmosphere is the BEST! Can't wait to go again :)
The crabcake is yummy! – When awesme bartender, Pauli, left his old establishment to open Nelson Blue I figured I had to venture all the way downtown to check it out. It was well worth it! I'm not much of a drinker--- I go mostly just to hang with my friends who are--- so the food and good vibes are important to me. I've had the crabcake several times: I flinched at the price the first time, but it is well worth it! It is mostly lump crabmeat, so pretty filling, and the citrus salsa makes it truly delicious. Because I'm comp... read more
Great spot for drinking, eating and being merry! – Very friendly staff (Pauli is a great guy and very talented bartender), attentive service, delicious food (try their zucchini pancakes or lamb chops -- mmmm), interesting and diverse crowd, good place to catch a soccer/baseball/rugby game, or even watch some skydiving videos on occasion! Spacious, nice decor, friendly atmosphere, convenient to transportation and city landmarks. Check it out, highly recommended!
Delicious and authentic New Zealand cuisine – Nelson Blue offers a wide variety of authentic New Zealand cuisine (I'm not a Kiwi, but have been there a few times), and very friendly and flexible service. One example of their mouth watering menu is that they fly in fresh NZ Mussels daily, and serve them in a delicious curry broth. Nelson Blue also has an excellent selection of Southern Hemisphere beers and wines. The management and staff are very accommodating, and will often broadcast exotic sporting events (eg International... read more
Why all the hoopla – we organized a good-bye lunch there. We made reservations for a group of 10 2 days before showing up. When we got there, we had to wait 30 minutes for a table bc they "forgot" our reservations. so we ended up sitting a 2 tables that we basically sat on each other's lap. We had the lollipop satays and the calamari. they were decent food. But all the other food was very basic/boring. It is a much better bar than a restaurant. the beer is pretty good. Not much space inside so all you have to stand outside u... read more
Don't be fooled...just a bar – Went there the other night and was very disappointed. Seems like the previous "highly recommended" review (with way too many exclamation points) was by the owner or staff. Honestly, it's not a bad bar, and I'd probably give it two to three stars if that's what they marketed themselves as, but alas, I'm reviewing a restaurant...and to do that I have to review the food. Sorry to say the food was almost inedible. I got a pie. Went with some kiwi friends who were raving about their country's yummy ... read more
You've never had a slider until you've had one of these babies! – I am quickly becoming a regular at Nelson Blue. After reading the other reviews I had to throw in my 2 cents. The staff is friendly and personable! Go see Paulie! He's behind the stick most nights and he is an absolute riot! He doesn't poor a bad cocktail for a Kiwi lol. You will be lucky if you can walk a straight line after slurping down a few of his cocktails. They have an amazing wine and draft beer list too! Paulie and his staff are more than willing to m... read more
