While walking around the house I noticed that there could have been some wind damage to my asphalt shingle roof that MRC Roofing installed a few years ago. A few years ago, MRC installed a beautiful solar reflective Malarkey asphalt shingle on my grandparents' home that received wind damage. Jon at MRC was able to provide full information with free quote, pictures, notes and drawing of the wind damage for me to give to my insurance company. My new house came with a sneaky little roof leak that created a big problem. The leak was traveling horizontally. MRC was able to determine that a reroof was in order. They removed what turned out to be three layers of roofing and found a lot of rotten lumber that needed to be replaced. They removed the pitch and gravel roofs and installed a new 3-ply CertainTeed modified bitumen cap sheet system. It came with a 20-year material warranty (transferable) and a 7-year leak free workmanship warranty.
We have a flat roof with cap sheet and silicone coating. In late January during flash flood rain, water pooled up and entered the home via skylight and dryer vent, flooding the 1st floor. MRC reroofed our pool house last year with Canadian cedar shake. It turned out so well that we decided to come back to reroof the main house. As before, MRC out right away for a free estimate. Victor, the salesman advises us that the building code now specifies that we needed to add a new layer of plywood since Hawaii is now listed as a hurricane susceptible state.
