One of the finest, most elegant Chinese restaurants in the city, this well-appointed Midtown spot is perhaps best known as a fixture of the 1980s art scene. Andy Warhol and the rest of his crew were devoted patrons. Although those days are long gone, Mr. Chow still lives on because of the quality of the food and the great space and its reputation. Menu highlights include crunchy whole shrimp and filet mignon. The two-course prix fixe is reasonably priced and is a great choice for lunch; there is another location in Tribeca i... read more

Awesone place and great food – I wanted to thank the staff of mr. chow, and I thought this was the best way. You guys are always accomodating and have welcomed me with warmth. I believe your restaurant have been around for so long for a reason. It is always good to see restaurants that last through think and thin. I tell you keep up the good work guys!!!
$68 Over-Price Fixe – Having read the most current review, my friend and I decided to journey to Mr. Chow's as Nobu's wait time exceeded an hour. Being only the two of us, and it being my friend's birthday, I treated. Money was not an object. I expected a tasteful atmosphere with a decent, if not stellar, meal and at least satisfactory service. We anticipated something along the lines of Nobu. The doorknob alone had a bit of character. We expected that to carry on into the environment and meal. We were rather wrong. Upon mak... read more
DON'T LISTEN TO THE HATERS – This is by far one of the best places to eat in NYC. I'm not a people watcher but I have seen Alex Rodriguez, Willem Dafoe, Sean Combs, and Kevin Connolly at the restaurant. I'm sure if the food, service, and atmosphere were as bad as everyone says you would not see so many well off people there. I can guarantee you that everyone that has given this place a bad review is just upset with the bill. This place is expensive, but if money is not an issue to you then you will not be disappointed with M... read more
Overall worth the trip! – If you're planning on a quiet dinner don't go here. This place is so loud you may even need the skill of reading lips to get through your dinner conversation. Despite the noise levels the food is excellent! They offer to choose your meal for you but if you're clear what you like or don't like I would ask to see the menu. The have a great variety of "land", "air", and "sea" fare. The wine by the glass choices are very limited but the Pinot Grigio is a light and fruity one that I recommend. The shrimp... read more
Overpriced for nothing – If you like a run down place, with no vibe, no background music and waiters making selections for you than this place is for you. There is a menu but when asked the waiter wasn't too pleased. How it works is they ask you your food preferences ( e.g. meat, seafood, poultry...) and then bring out several dishes based on that. My husband asked for seafood and i for meat. We got two apps and two tiny portions of the main course ( filet mignon and fried sole) with side of green beans and rice. after that ... read more
MR. CHOW IS THE MAN !!!!! – I have been going to Mr.Chow for the past 6 years. Since they opened Tribeca I mostly go to this location since I live in Tribeca. I have read these reviews and came to conclusion that those people that wrote these negative reviews are either jealous of Mr. Chow success or have no better things to do . The restaurant is one of the most beautiful restaurants in the city. The stuff is very friendly and polite. The Food is Magnificent. The clientele is one of a kind. The ambiance is great. I can go o... read more
Worst food and service combination I've ever had in NYC – I go out in NYC very very often for business dinners so I have a good amount of other restaurants to compare this one too. I have to say all the reviews on here are true. The wait staff was one of the rudest groups of people I've ever had the unfortunate pleasure of dealling with at a restaurant. Literally I have never been treated worse that at Mr. Chow. I am not a high brow type of person either. I do not appreciate being charged way above the pre set menu price tho... read more
Way over-hyped – I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant, and the potstickers were good, but those are the only two good things I can say about this restaurant. I asked for soy sauce and was given a lecture by the waiter, who then ignored my request and never brought the soy sauce. The portions were TINY, and although the food was ok, the chicken tasted like KFC and none of it was anything special. The tables are waaaaaay too close together - you have to crawl over the table next to you to get out/in. Not worth it!
Survivor- minus Probst & Clooney – My friends& I are not strangers to the NY dining scene or fine cuisine. We're eager to spend money for good food&service-sparing no expense for a special occasion. After being greeted by a handsome&polite wait staff lined up like soldiers prepared for combat; we were hopeful that our stay would be pleasant. Our obnoxiously arrogant waiter spoiled the evening by his presumptuous nature. We didn't appreciate his offer to prepare a dish without being offered a menu; so I promptly asked for one bec... read more
