About this business

One of the finest, most elegant Chinese restaurants in the city, this well-appointed Midtown spot is perhaps best known as a fixture of the 1980s art scene. Andy Warhol and the rest of his crew were devoted patrons. Although those days are long gone, Mr. Chow still lives on because of the quality of the food and the great space and its reputation. Menu highlights include crunchy whole shrimp and filet mignon. The two-course prix fixe is reasonably priced and is a great choice for lunch; there is another location in Tribeca i... read more

usually a wild night – I've only been here a handful of times the last 25 years, but they're all memorable - at least the early part of the nights. This is a place to get wasted and indulge yourself with a table full of friends. Get up and socialize with other wasted people in here, it's fun! I can remember some b*tchy service that was hysterically funny and went perfectly with the atmosphere. The food is NOT typical chinese please. When do you see hollandaise or whatever for satay? Don't trash this place cause it's not like... read more

WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE – I have never disliked a restaurant so much that I was compelled to write a review, but I really feel that it is necessary. I am an Asian studies PhD, with a concentration in Chinese language and culture and can tell you from the onset that the food is far from authentic. You can get food in Chinatown that is infinitely better in quality and incredibly cheaper. The appalling thing is, that the food wasn't just unauthentic, is was DISGUSTING. The presentation was unbearable and the flav... read more

Go For The Experience – Ordered about 4 different entrees and the food was very good but didn't really match the high price tag. This would be a one time experience - as in, you would eat there for the experienc of going to Mr.Chow but this isn't the type of place to frequent a lot. Crowded, rushed and a little snotty...but good for a fun date.

Always Awesome – We had a reservation and still waited 35 min for our table which is normal here. The service never disappoints. These guys are mind readers...they are on top of you from start to finish. Cuisine is well executed Beijing style and is always fresh and tasty. Always a stop for us when we go to NYC. Unfortunatley, service is not duplicated at the Miami outpost recently opened in W hotel on South Beach. Food is good and space is beautiful but waiters are terrible like most spots on SOBE.

Disgusting, vile, hateful place I was dragged here by others, and I am still in shock. This was the most disgusting, awful dining experience of my entire life, calibrated for cost.

Disgusting, vile, hateful place I was dragged here by others, and I am still in shock. This was the most disgusting, awful dining experience of my entire life, calibrated for cost. The food at Mr. Chow's is literally shocking. It is putrid. It tastes awful, looks awful, smells awful. The smirks on all the wait staffs' faces indicates that they know anyone here is a complete sucker, ready to be separated from as much money as possible. I was ashamed to be a part of this, ashamed to be there. No one who knows the slightest thi... read more

Terrible Experience At Mr. Chow – Went to this place having read the reviews and could not believe how less than average and misleading this place is. Lot's of artificial colorings in food. Watch out.

BEST EVER – I highly recommend this place both for single dining, dates, or any family parties. They provide service to the utmost perfection; they are so helpful and kind, and they make sure that my boyfriend and I had a good time. I have gone to this place many times before ever since I was young, so to make sure that I arranged a good date. The food was delicious, you won't get any of those bizarre americanized "chinese" foods here. It's totally authentic and delightful.
