In 1981 I had my first Big Trip all over the U.S. on a Greyhound Bus.I was just 24 at the time.As a Tip from the YMCA hotel I have found this nice and friendly bar on Santa Monica Boulevard,called Mother Load.The bartender was really friendly to cash an AMEX travelers' cheque ,so I had some cash in the big city.Friendships ,I still have from back then from that famous bar.I soon will be 60 . An old-time classic gay bar – Motherlode has left itself in the past. Surprisingly it managed to weather the slow days, and witnessed a number of neighbors come and go (especially down at the cursed corner location). The bar maintains the old style side-bar with big mirrors look. Pool can be played on the opposite side. And the TINY outdoor area (not really outdoors) are best left to the smokers. Cheap Strong Drinks!!! – I was always skiddish about going to this bar because it seems like an older man's bar, which in some ways it is. The bottom line of this bar is come with cash and order two Long Islands ($8 each) and you're drunk for the night. I really like this bar. Charlie the bartender is awesome. Best Karaoke – You don't have to be the best singer or the most confident. The crowd helps and the host will make you feel comfortable. This is one of the best bars you will ever visit and the art is awesome!
Best Bartender – Charlie is the best bartender in WeHo...he's one of the main reasons to check out the mother lode. The place is a completly differnet scene from the other two close bars on robertson, friendliest staff off Santa Monica.
The Mother Lode has the best Karaoke on Santa Monica Blvd. Hands down! They have tons of song selections and the best sound I've ever heard at a Karaoke show. They make everyone feel like a rock star. The crowd is fun and full of energy. I would definitely recommend this place if youre looking for a wild night out with a twist.
