Not As Great As They Say – The famous Morton's of Chicago....Sure. Let me give you the highlights of my experience, there bread and dessert. The onion bread loaf is deliciuos and so is there Godiva cake. However, I didn't go to Morton's for cake, I went for great steak. I had a Filet Mignon and my friend had the Porterhouse. Both of us found the steaks average with little flavor. The lyonnaise potato I ordered were lousy as well. The service was no extremely horrible, but I found the waiter to be a little snobish. I won't go... read more
Hobnob in Chicago – Reminds me of an established dining experience from the early 1900s, typical large room filled with boisterous upper class patrons satisfying them selves on well prepared fine cuisine and substantial wines, while smoking the most expensive cigars available. I had the Spinach salad and the Farm Raised Salmon both of which were excellent, but nothing special when compare to other fine establishments. The service is decent depending on the size of your group as the servers know who will tip appropriately and... read more
Quality, Quality, Quality – The cajun ribeye steak is the best steak I have ever had. Quality of the meat comes through the rich yet not overpowering seasonings. I prefer the more marbled cut such as ribeye and Morton's definitely does it right. My mother had the filet and the meat melts in your mouth. The sides are simple yet well done. There is no need for bells and whistles when the quality of the ingredients are top notch.
Resting on its laurels... – The food was fairly good, though by no means the best steak I've ever had. The service, though, was atrocious and unacceptable, especially considering what were paying to eat at this overrated dinosaur of a restaurant.
best in chicags – My girlfriend claims that the filet diane is the best steak on the planet. I think the steaks (Iv had the porterhouse and ribeye) are the best in the city. My only con is that many of the tables are very close together. The smoke also bothers me a bit. Others (chicago chop house) have a separate non smoking section. Anyways.....very classy, superb service, the best steak. Also a big separate bar to throw down cocktails if you have to wait. Go.
Where's the Beef – I visited Morton's on a busy Friday night for dinner with out of town guests. It wasn't very late in the evening, it was around 8:00pm. I first ordered the Prime Rib which I was told they ran out of. I then ordered a strip steak medium rare and ended up with a tough, overcooked piece of meat. By that time, my dinner companions were close to being finished with their meals so I wasn't going to make them wait any longer for my meal to be done properly. I did complain, however management didn't seem to care.
a little appetizer for much – My husband and I went to Morton's on maple street and it was ok. The steak wasn't quite what I had expected, however I eat the whole thing. We also ordered crab cakes which we thought we heard the waiter mentioning that it comes with 3 on the plate. One crabcake was all there was for 11 dollars and some odd cents. It was also small. We wasnt asked about seating arrangments so we got a smoking section. I do not reccommend this steak house unless you are going to drink wine.I was impress with the ... read more
