I had a very concerning experience with Dr. Michele Barton during my postpartum stay. She was visibly frustrated with my decision to exclusively breastfeed and used forceful, condescending language, stating, “I shouldn’t let you leave the hospital.” I was not informed that I had the option to leave against medical advice. Instead, it was presented as though I could not be discharged unless I scheduled a pediatric appointment for the next day, and I was required to show proof before being allowed to leave.
