About this business

One of Houston's finest Italian Restaurants, Michelangelo's Restaurante' is well known for its romantic atmosphere, elegant food, and fine service. Michelangelo's has been serving pasta and romance in the same house, with the tree in the middle, since 1969. Houston's first "sidewalk" cafe, Michelangelo's originally gained fame for its tempting pizzas and succulent, award-winning pastas. Since 1969, we expanded the menu to include great veal, seafood, chicken and beef dishes, while still preparing and serving the dishes that ... read more

Uniquely Italian – We attended dinner here with my fiancee and her two kids this past Friday evening. The service, ambiance, attention to detail, and delectable Italian dishes were happily unchanged and unequivacably excellent. As appetizers, we tried the stuffed mushrooms with crabmeat, and the calamari. Both were excellent! My fiancee and I both opted for the Pasta Mista dish for dinner, which comes with a robust tour of Italian specialties, including homemade canneloni, chicken parmesan, homemade lasagna, and homemade fet... read more

This Montrose hideaway has set the standard for romantic Italian dining since 1969. – The Scene From couples to coworkers, multiple generations of Houstonians have passed through Michelangelo's dimly lit dining room. This cozy house with a tree in the middle sets the mood with relaxed decor and satisfying comfort food. Diners wait for tables in a small bar adjacent to the stage. Romantic piano standards drift through the two dining rooms and covered patio. Service is friendly and efficient. The Food Expect a menu of favorite... read more

An amazing experience – I took my girlfriend there the weekend before Valentine's Day, and it was the best meal we've ever had. We had a reservation, but they were backlogged, so we had to wait about fifteen minutes. We sat and listened to the piano player, and the time flew by. He later came by our table and asked if we had any songs we wished to request. The waitstaff was very nice and attentive. I had the snapper siciliano, and it was some of the best fish I've had. My girlfriend was very happy with the stuffed chicken. I... read more

User review by gs24 – I would not recommend this place. I made reservations for my wifes birthday and they sat us outside on the patio. Her seat was soaken wet. I told the manager they might want to check the chairs before seating other guests because my wife's pants got wet. He replied "thats awesome." We asked to be moved so they put us upstairs in a room that looked like Luby's. Then a party of 15 teenyboppers came and sat next to us. At this point we left and went to Ruggles. Michelangelos sucks!!!!!!!

EXCELLENT DATE PLACE – I believe there is no better place than this cozy, small, but full of personality restaurant! The ambience, the people and the food just makes it a great place to be with your date. The piano player is great and it just makes the mood even more romantic! The price is a bit steep, but it is all worth it for the time and quality you get served at this restaurant.

Great Food and Atmosphere – The food and romantic atmosphere makes this a great place for dates or a small group. Chicken alla mostarda and calimari are delicious. Service the 2 times I have been though is sub-par. Make reservations in advance-not required but helpful.

Great experience – Great place to take your date. The ambience was perfect and the food was great. Desert was even better....try the "tres leches". Great live music. The lighting was romantic but a little bit too dark. It was busy and a little bit loud when I went. Had to constantly ask my date to repeat what he was saying.

Disappointing – I took my fiance here for his birthday and we were both extremely disappointed, as we had a much better experience here 4 years ago. Things have certainly changed. The salads are great and so is the atmosphere, but the food was just bland. I think I'd rather eat at Olive Garden than here, which is not saying very much. There was no flavor in either of our dishes and the shrimp I had was not cooked correctly. We will not be returning.
