I have been a MetLife pet insurance customer with three dogs on the same policy. Every time one of my dogs got sick and I submitted a claim, the visit was categorized by the VET as "Office Visit/Consultation" — and every single one of those claims was approved without issue. Same language, same format, every time. Then came my dog Dobby's last visit on April 16, 2026. He was sick. The vet gave him Cerenia injections for vomiting, prescribed Metronidazole for what was clearly a gastrointestinal illness, and ran diagnostic blo... read more
Pretty much everything is going to be denied as a pre-existing condition, especially if you sign up for a policy with a pet that wasn't registered as a puppy/kitten etc. from the very beginning with a pristine bill of health of your vet. Even subsequent visits with new conditions will get denied if it's somewhat related to the original condition. They will find any excuse. Cancelling, waste of money.
I would not recommend MetLife Pet Insurance. My experience with their customer service has been extremely frustrating—communication is poor, responses are slow, and it feels like they are not genuinely trying to help. What’s even more concerning is how claims are handled. It matches what many others have said: they seem to label far too many conditions as “pre-existing,” even when there’s no clear justification. This makes it very difficult to get reimbursed for legitimate claims, defeating the purpose of having insurance in... read more
If I could, I would leave a zero-star review for MetLife. I am very disappointed with the service. I bought insurance for my two dogs nearly two years ago through my employer, and since then, I have filed six claims, but only one was approved, and it did not cover the full amount. Additionally, the insurance premium has increased. It is extremely challenging to contact them, as phone calls result in lengthy wait times and attempts to utilize the in-app chat feature are often unsuccessful, which is why I had to resort to usin... read more
Be very careful with this pet insurance. My claim was denied because my cat had symptoms (lethargy, fever) during the waiting period—even without a confirmed diagnosis. They treat symptoms alone as “pre-existing,” which can exclude even diagnostic testing. I went through appeals, provided a vet letter, and filed with the Texas Department of Insurance. The denial was upheld based on the policy language. Make sure you fully understand how waiting periods and pre-existing conditions are defined before choosing this policy.
MetLife Pet Insurance has a 3 star rating with 336 reviews.
