Dr. Swanson is by far the most arrogant & sententious doctors I have ever encountered. I went to Dr. Swanson a couple of years ago with obvious knee problems (that originated from a car accident). My x-rays showed bone on bone and my overall health was being effected by my lack of mobility and chronic pain. Without any sense of compassion, her professional opinion (after turning over approximately six minutes of her time) was for me to consider lap-band surgery and to sell my beautiful home because it has stairs. From initial visit, pre-op prep, surgery, and post-op care, everything was great! Instructions were clear and detailed and I feel contributed to a painless recovery. Her post-op pain management was great. I did not feel rushed during visits and my questions were answered. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
I felt rushed, and felt that she did not listen, much less show any empathy.
Doctor Swanson and her staff at Sentara are exceptional. I am not a person to use that word lightly. From my first evaluation visit through post-op care Dr. Swanson has been caring and compassionate and super communicative. She truly listens to what you have to say. I had a total knee replacement and could not be happier. She and her staff guided me through the entire process with genuine caring and humor. They made me feel like I was their only patient. I could not have asked for a more caring and professional surgeon. Her bedside manner is wonderful ! I was pleased from beginning to end with Dr. Swanson and her team. Highly recommend!!!!

My frustration with all the checklists, boot camp, etc which took months with severe pain from a torn meniscus, I cancelled my knee surgery which never had a definite surgical date. Also, some of her office staff could use some training in being polite.
Dr. Swanson is absolutely wonderful!!! She has replaced both of my husband's knees and has done an amazing job. She is wonderful not only as a surgeon but with her patients and their family. God blessed us with finding Dr. Swanson for my husband's procedure.
