I never had a bad experience up to recently. I went for a routine pap smear and we decided to go ahead and do the std panel assuming it was covered by insurance. Well imagine my surprise when I’m getting billed $200 and I call and try to get the obgyn to fix the code because the way it was coded to my insurance they deemed it unnecessary and im stuck with the bill. Dr. James is literally the best OBGYN I've ever had. She's one in a million. I drive 40 minutes to see her, and she sometimes runs behind because she actually cares and takes her time with patients but is well worth the wait. The level of care I've experienced from her and her team is exceptional. I'm heard, cared for and taken seriously. When you find a provider like that, you keep her. Aside from just being an amazing human being, she's such a compassionate and we'll informed Dr.
I really wanted to like Dr. Joan James but after waiting a month to get ANY call or connection about my results and the NEXT steps, Im done. Absolutely unacceptable that I've sent 3 messages in my patient portal, called and left 3 messages at the office with the front desk, and left messages with her assistant and still, a month later... NOTHING. No call, no portal email, NOTHING. What a horrible healthcare experience.
My provider accidentally spilt the specimen container that had my Pap smear swabs in them, on herself & literally said “Ewwy”. I know that is probably not what she expected to happen (and I get it being gross) but there are ways to be professional about it. As someone who used to work at a ob/gyn office, stuff like that happens. You never make the patient feel bad about it or say things like “ewwy”.
