Nastiest Bakery in Kansas City or even further!!!!! – I went into this bakery and was ordering a cake, and the lady said she had to ask someone a question on my order. So she then walked over to an older man that was sitting down at a desk and as he turned (with his uncleaned body) he was listineing to her as he scratched his crotch area. And let me say I do not think he wears underwear. If that helps the picture. I ask the lady who he was and she said he was the owner of the bakery. He walked over being nice, but with the H... read more

bad customer service – I also experienced poor customer service at McLain's a few montha ago. I had ordered a cake from there during the week and was set to pick it up at noon on Saturday. I was out Saturday morning running errands with my infant daughter and around 12:25 got a call from my husband on my cell phone saying that a lady from McLain's had called and sounded annoyed and said I was suppose to pick up my cake at noon and someone needed to get there immediately to pick it up b/c they were trying to close. I know I w... read more

McLain's has gone down hill.... – After being a loyal customer for as long as I can remember, I will no longer shop at McLain's Bakery after a recent experience. During this recent visit, wherein I purchased $85 worth of baked goods for a family who had just lost a loved one, I was shocked and appalled by the horrendous customer service rendered by none other than the OWNER! I had pre-ordered 4 dozen cookies for the family, and upon arriving to the store, decided to add a few more items to my order. I ordered an assortment of... read more

Nicest owners – We called McLain's long distance from Colorado with an unusual request: deliver a large gift of "comfort foods" to an address 30 miles away from the bakery, in time for the funeral of our boss's mother. Not only did the nice couple who owns McLain's go over all the options of what would be good to include, but they delivered it on time and with a note explaining who it was coming from. They were kind and understanding and the fresh-baked goodies were a huge success. It couldn't have worked out better.

One of the Best – McLains has been in Waldo as long as I can remember and I'm 52. Old world pastries, rolls, cookies, brownies , cakes and cookies. This is not the place for whole wheat bread or pesto tomatoe frocaccia,. Their sweet rolls are an institution and without peer. The new owners and making a few changes and I hope they move carefully. You can't find this type of product anywhere elese in the metro area. Prices have gone up in recent years but still very far for what you get. Holidays are very crowded!

One of Kansas City's oldest bakeries offers the finest in drippingly delicious baked goods. – In Short While this well-known bakery has been serving doughy treats since 1945, Don and Patricia Peattie gained ownership in 2001. Cookies and pastries are baked fresh daily without preservatives for walk-in and corporate customers, wishing to treat their clients. For those over the age of 100, don't miss out on a free birthday cake, complete with candles and personalization.
