Marcus-Boyd Realty’s property management arm is absolutely atrocious! Fortunately, I’ve never rented at a property managed by them or hired them to manage one of my properties. I’ve just had the simple misfortune of buying a house next to a property managed by them. Marcus-Boyd Realty completely blew off my requests to fix a clogged gutter system on their property that is causing massive water runoff/damage on my property (and very likely the property they manage). I contacted them, my wife contacted them, the tenants contacted them, and even the property owners say they contacted them about this issue, but despite all of this effort, Marcus-Boyd Realty chose to do nothing. The current tenants at the property, who are very nice people, tell us that Marcus-Boyd Realty has routinely ignored their requests for repairs/maintenance, to the point that the tenants have had to either just put up with it or pay for the repairs/maintenance themselves. Can you imagine living in a place where you have to pay both rent AND for repairs to the owner’s property?!? Unbelievable! According to our neighbors who have been living here longer than us, the property managed by Marcus-Boyd Realty has had a long-standing pattern of renters leaving in a huff well before they originally intended. Property management companies like Marcus-Boyd Realty are a big contributor to urban blight in Baltimore, because they don’t take care of the properties they manage or the people living in them, thereby allowing the properties themselves to fall into disrepair and the surrounding neighborhoods to become distressed. The property management issue that is the subject of this review is happening in the Hampden neighborhood, which is a decently well-resourced neighborhood. I am horrified to think about how Marcus-Boyd Realty interacts with renters, properties, and neighbors in Baltimore’s more disadvantaged neighborhoods. Marcus-Boyd Realty treats their renters and the properties that they manage like trash, because they are a trash property management company. 0 stars would be a generous rating for them. Avoid.
