It's worth your time to eat here. – When I first moved here, I actually ate here (Westlake location) 5 times in one week. The salsa is very good if you can stand some heat. Everything I have ordered was very good with exception to only a 2 star rating on their fish tacos when I tried them. The prices are quite reasonable for being in a high rent area.
Re: "Chilli Dog Enchaladas" – Maudie's has never billed itself as a "Mexican" restaurant. Look at the titles in this listing. Maudie's has always been a "Tex-Mex" restuarant. And the ENCHILADA (from Spanish "enchilar" = "to add chili pepper to", not "enchalada") topped with chili con carne (beef chili) is pretty much the quintessential Tex-Mex dish. Really good Tex-Mex, great spot – We do love the setting and porch here even if it is crawling with some people cheesier than the food served! Ha, always a wait usually made 10x better with the fantastic margaritas. Perfect for families, groups or just 2. Maudie's has quite a few great plates on their menu although some duds and inconsistent but with that kind of traffic...well better then most. Staff works hard to take care of you, they have on more than one occassion changed things up for my picky wife!
Tex Mex a la Westlake – When I dine with locals we usually frequent one of the other locations for consistency and no wait. But when there are out-of-towners involved I usually take them to the "Milagro" location in Davenport Ranch in Westlake. Its a little more upscale, a great patio and nice drive in West Lake Hills. Chilli Dog Enchaladas – I just got back from the worst Enchaladas ever. The atmophere was great but the food is hardly mexican. The "chili con carne" was just wolf brand chili with velveta chesse. The "chili" with onions made the enchaladas taste a lot like chili dogs. Great if you are in New York at a hot dog stand but no good if you are in Austin at a mexican food place. Worth the Wait – This Maudies is no longer a secret. Great views of the hills off the balcony, and great food make it well worth the wait. Salsa is HOT (but gooood). Happy Hours can be crowded with West Lake neighbors. Occasional celebrity siting including Dennis Quaid. Best thing on the menu I've had is the Carne Guisada Burritos.
Great patio dining! – Out of all the Maudie's, this one is my favorite solely because of their outdoor balcony/patio to dine at. I've never had anything that just wasn't excellent. Great Tex-Mex!
An upscale take on this familiar Tex-Mex chain. – In Short This Maudie's has an uptown, yet casual vibe, with textured yellow walls set off by a terra-cotta exterior. Stripped cedar logs form a checkerboard across the ceiling, and leather chairs sit with the stark wrought-iron tables. The Westlake crowd, young and old, makes this a lively spot. The caldo de pollo is stocked with chicken, rice, avocado, onions and cilantro. Tamales el Jefe are more typical Tex-Mex fare, swathed in chili con carne and queso.
mediocre service, bad management – The service is average. But what was really bad on our last visit was the management. Apparently there was an electrical fire elsewhere in the stripmall buildling. They told us we'd have to take the food they just gave us and leave, but asked us to give our credit card so they could charge us.
